Key construction milestones

Onshore substation

  • 2008 – local network diverted slightly to enable substation connection
  • Spring 2009 – most pre-construction surveys completed
  • Autumn 2009 – earthworks and screening mounds completed
  • December 2009 – access roads completed
  • July 2010 – control room construction substantially complete
  • July to October 2010 – transformer deliveries
  • August 2010 – North Wall construction commenced (installation of steel and precast concrete panels)
  • September 2010 – internal concrete roads and pavings completed
  • November 2010 – Phase One civil construction works completed
  • November 2010 – Electrical and mechanical installation started
  • March 2011 – Phase two civil works started
  • August 2011 to end 2011 – minor works, paving and fencing
  • October 2011 – substation commissioning
  • March 2012 – landscaping
  • Autumn/winter 2011 – installation of first  export cable
  • Spring/summer 2012 – installation of remaining three export cables
  • October 2012 – construction complete

Offshore

  • Summer 2010 – offshore construction base built at Port of Ramsgate
  • October 2010 – construction team mobilises at Ramsgate
  • March 2011 – foundation installation starts
  • July- August 2011 –  offshore substations installed and array cable installation starts
  • Autumn 2011 – installation starts on first export cable
  • January 2012 – turbine installation starts
  • Spring 2012 – installation starts on remaining export cables
  • October 2012 – first power generated
  • December 2012 – final turbine installed
  • Spring 2013 – project handed over to operations and maintenance team
