Construction Updates

Since March, when the first foundation was installed, another 175 foundations have been installed.   Two of these are the foundations for the offshore substations, which were installed in May 2011.  The SeaWorker and Matador 3, a sheerleg crane barge, accompanied by the tug Jan Leenheer, installed the foundations and transition pieces for the offshore substations.

The two offshore substations were installed at the London Array site on the 9th and 11th July 2011, marking the completion of a key phase in the project’s construction.  Click here to read more.

The  foundations were installed by Sea Worker, Sea Jack, MPI Adventure and HLV Svanen.   The first turbine was installed at the end of January 2012.  Sea Worker was joined by MPI Discovery in February 2012 and the final turbine was installed by Discovery in December 2012.

Array cable installation started towards the end of the summer in 2011 and the first export cable, which connects the offshore substations to the new onshore substation at Cleve Hill, was installed towards the end of 2011.  The remaining three export cables were  installated in 2012.
