Construction Updates

Since March, when the first foundation was installed, another 131 foundations have been installed.   Two of these are the foundations for the offshore substations, which were installed in May 2011.  The SeaWorker and Matador 3, a sheerleg crane barge, accompanied by the tug Jan Leenheer, installed the foundations and transition pieces for the offshore substations.

The two offshore substations were installed at the London Array site on the 9th and 11th July 2011, marking the completion of a key phase in the project’s construction.  Click here to read more.

131 foundations have been installed offshore by the three installation vessels working onsite – Sea Worker, MPI Adventure and HLV Svanen.  Adventure is continuing to install foundations, Sea Worker, after completing foundation installation, has now started to install wind turbines.  The first turbine was installed at the end of January.  Sea Worker was joined by MPI Discovery in February, which is also installing wind turbines at London Array.  To date 47 wind turbines have been installed.

Array cable installation started towards the end of the summer and the first export cable, which will connect the offshore substations to the new onshore substation at Cleve Hill, was installed towards the end of 2011.  The second export cable has now been installed with the remaining two cables expected to be installed over summer/autumn this year.
