London Array benefits

Wind energy has the potential to make a significant contribution towards reducing emissions of the greenhouse gases that are believed to contribute to global warming. The fully operational London Array wind farm would make a significant contribution to the UK Government’s renewables targets. Based on the current schedule, it is expected that the project would, on its own, produce enough power to achieve almost 10% of the Government’s target in 2010.

When fully completed, the London Array wind farm would provide enough electricity for more than 750,000 homes – equivalent to the household demand of Kent and East Sussex combined, or for a quarter of Greater London homes.

In addition, a fossil fuelled power station would produce millions of tonnes more carbon dioxide (CO2) than the London Array wind farm over its life.
