Kent Wind Energy Network Meeting – 19 April 2012

Following the recent re-launch of the Kent Wind Energy directory a networking event was held in April to give local businesses the opportunity to find out what is happening in the offshore wind sector in Kent and to network with other companies interested in supplying or servicing this sector.  Presentations were given by Kent County Council, KARIM, Vattenfall and High Growth Kent followed by an opportunity for questions.

Kent 2020 Vision - 19 April 2012

London Array exhibited at Kent 2020 Vision, the south east’s largest business trade fair.  We were part of the Low Carbon Zone, an exciting new area of the exhibition sponsored by Kent County Council.  The zone aims to show local businesses how they can benefit from sustainable and low carbon technologies whilst providing free help for companies who’d like to get involved.

Kent Choices 4U Careers Fair – 15 March 2012

Colleagues from DONG Energy, the O&M service provider for London Array, exhibited at this two day careers fair.  The event was free for people to attend and offered career information and advice for school leavers and job seekers.  Our team spoke to visitors about the career opportunities within the offshore wind sector and the routes to start a career within this exciting and growing industry.

Turner and the Elements, Turnner Contemporary – January -May 2012

London Array is proud to be sponsoring Turner Contemporary’s unique exhibition, celebrating JMW Turner’s portrayal of the elements.  The exhibition brings together over 80 water colours and 12 oil paintings depicting Turner’s exploration and the importance of the classical elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

The exhibition which was opened by Jon Snow on 28th January runs until 13 May 2012.  The Turner Contemporary, Rendezvous, Margate, is open Tuesday to Sunday and bank holidays from 10 am to 6pm.

London Array is working closely with Turner Contemporary to support their programme of learning activities for the local community and schools.

Kent’s Coastal Week – October 2011

London Array was one of the sponsor’s for last year’s Kent’s Coastal Week, which ran from 22 to 30 October.  The week is a celebration of what the Kent coast has to offer, with free or subsidised events – ranging from creative workshops, beach art and boat trips to shingle sculptures and storytelling – taking place from Dartford round the 350 miles to Dungeness.

Members of the London Array team were present at the Creative Coast in Whitstable weekend event on Sunday 23 October which kick started the week of activities.  Visitors to the London Array stand were able to make decorative pinwheels, experiment with the most effective shape and number of blades and find out more about London Array.

Ramsgate Week – July 2011

In July London Array sponsored Ramsgate Week, the annual sailing regatta of the South East.  The international event attracts sailors from the UK, France, Holland and Belgium.  As Ramsgate is the home base for our construction, operations and maintenance teams it gave us great pleasure to support this popular and family friendly event, which attracts people to Ramsgate from far and wide.

Wind turbine challenge – July 2011

London Array has been involved in a competition where students from across Kent were challenged to design, build and test their own working wind turbine.  The wind turbine challenge was delivered as part of a series of master-classes designed and organised by the 12-24 Innovation Team at Kent County Council in partnership with employers and other organisations.  They aimed to raise awareness of a variety of career options to young people in the 14-19 year old age group to support their future career options.  During the challenge students were assisted by wind-energy experts, including a member of the London Array team.

Site Visit, Cleve Hill – Saturday 11 June 2011

This year we again invited the residents of Graveney and Goodnestone to visit our construction works at Cleve Hill.  Local residents got the opportunity to see how work is progressing onsite with members of the London Array project and Community Relations teams on hand to answer any questions. 

Ramsgate Information Session, Royal Temple Yacht Club – Tuesday 25 January 2011

In January, we held an information session to tel local people more about London Array. The session was well attendd and we were pleased to find out there’s a good feeling towards the wind farm in the Ramsgate and Thanet areas.

Kent Marine Festival – Thursday 14 October 2010

In October, we attended the Kent Marine Festival, an event organised by the Kent Education Business Partnership to highlight to students at a critical stage in their option choices, the potential career paths in the marine and maritime industry. Around 2,000 students, from 27 schools across Kent, attended the day and London Array was one of nearly 70 companies to talk to students about career prospects in the sector.

History Weekend, Graveney Church Hall – Saturday 19 June 2010

Mick Rawlings, one of our archaeology specialists, attended the Friends of Graveney Church History Weekend on 19 June along with members of the London Array Team. Mick spoke about the archaeology finds that we’ve made on site at Cleve Hill and described the work we’ve done to record two World War II structures that had to be removed to allow construction to take place. These are a pillbox and a Royal Navy ‘Starfish’ decoy Operation Post, both built around 1940.

Site visits, Cleve Hill – Saturday 19 June 2010

To coincide with the History Weekend, we invited the residents of Graveney and Goodnestone to visit our construction works at Cleve Hill on 19 June. As well as taking visitors on a site tour, our project and site managers explained the work we’ve done at Cleve Hill to date and how we’re getting on with building the major infrastructure for the London Array project.

Supply chain event, Westgate-on-Sea – 9 June 2010

On 9 June, we held a ‘meet the buyer’ supply chain event that was attended by more than 150 local businesses from across Kent. The companies, which were from a variety of sectors, had the opportunity to meet the London Array team and some of our main contractors and find out how they could benefit from the wind farm’s construction and maintenance activities.
