Wind monitoring mast

In September 2004, a wind monitoring mast was installed in the south-west corner of the London Array wind farm site. Although the site has already been identified as having good wind speeds, the mast allows detailed data to be gathered on wind speed and direction at different times of the year. This data will help decide the turbine most suitable for the site conditions.

The mast is constructed on a single piled foundation and includes a platform for boat and crane landing. Measuring equipment is installed to record wind speed and direction, and the data is transmitted back to shore for processing and analysis.
