Offshore components

The key components of the wind farm offshore would be:
• The wind turbines
• Their foundations (to secure them
to the sea bed)
• Array cabling between groups of turbines and offshore substations
• Offshore substations to step up the voltage (to reduce losses) before feeding
the power to shore
• Up to six export cables under the sea between the offshore transformers and shore
The whole project could see up to 341 turbines being constructed in an area of up to around 245km2 on and between the two sandbanks, Long Sand and Kentish Knock.
